Pandanus Fiber Harvested and bush dyed by Sylvia Nulpinditj
These leaves are harvested from the Pandanus Spiralis plant. Sylvia Nulpinditj from Milingimbi in central Arnhem Land collects the natural materials and uses her botanical and chemical knowledge in the bush dying process. The fiber is then used in weaving in a variety of construction techniques including coiling, looping and twining.
We oil these daily using a mix of 2 parts water and 1 part olive oil, and it is recommended weaving with this material take place in the late afternoon to early evening.
