Kungka Kutjara is a creation story following two sisters who travel\u003cbr\u003ethrough the desert leaving significant landmarks in their wake. Martha's\u003cbr\u003epainting focuses on a significant cultural site just outside Kaltukatjara where the\u003cbr\u003etwo sisters stopped to rest under two big shade trees. It also shows features of\u003cbr\u003ethe striking desert landscape such as kapi (rock holes), purnu (trees) and puli\u003cbr\u003e(rocks).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eMartha\u003c\/strong\u003e is a lively and animated artist whose works draw a connection between\u003cbr\u003ethe physical and spiritual realms of her life. She sings Inma (ceremony) songs\u003cbr\u003econtinuously as she paints, her steady voice offering a rhythm for the brush.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMartha Protty is a senior law woman and multidisciplinary artist working across\u003cbr\u003epainting and tjanpi weaving.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMartha was born south of Docker River at a Rockhole, the name of which Martha\u003cbr\u003ecannot speak for cultural reasons. Her whole family are from Docker River country.\u003cbr\u003eMatha's father's country is Warakurna and her mother's country is near Wingellina.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eShe has one son and one daughter and her husband has passed away. Her husband\u003cbr\u003ewas from the other side of the Peterman Ranges.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMartha has been painting, weaving tjanpi (desert grasses) and carving purnu (wooden\u003cbr\u003esticks) for many years. She is a senior law woman and holds important tjukurrpa songs\u003cbr\u003efor her country.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMartha is a lively character and even at nearly 90 years old, she remains a strong\u003cbr\u003esinger and cultural knowledge-keeper.
