LENORE DEMBSKI PAPERBARK WOMAN

Lenore has been running her small business for about 50 years.  She started designing and making clothes for family and friends when she was 13. When Lenore lived in Adelaide she manufactured children’s clothes, ladies’ clothes and soft furnishings for three outlets.  When she returned to Darwin she manufactured clothing for individuals and several small businesses.  Lenore operated her first retail outlet from 1997 to 2004, and her second one from October 2016.

Lenore is an experienced presenter and has been the Chair, MC or Facilitator at over 55 national, international, NT or local conferences since 2000.  Over the last 27 years, Lenore has also done over 50 presentations at the local, state and national level.  Some of the areas include: Indigenous policy development; service delivery; community development; health; housing; education; employment; economic development; training; governance; leadership; law and justice, land management; cross cultural competencies and career development and mentoring.

As a Kungarakan Traditional Owner, Custodian and Elder, Lenore is involved in land management issues on her Mother’s Country which includes traditional country such as Batchelor, Adelaide River, Darwin River, Territory Wildlife Park and Litchfield National Park.  Kungarakan and Warai are part of the Finniss River Land Trust and Kungarakan are part of the Wagait Land Trust.  Lenore also does “Welcome to Country” ceremonies on country.
