Surparkra started painting when he was a teenager using cut up old canvas tents and paints from his school. He learned the skills from his mother and Dolcy Nangala (Timmy's ex-wife). In 1992, Surparkra's mother and other women painters of Haasts Bluff founded Ikuntji Women's Centre. Surparka started seriously painting in 2010.
