Ikuntji Artists presents Ikuntji Textiles, a book about the development of the designs, their stories and the artists behind them, and the collaborations. This full colour publication gives an insight into our range of wearable art textiles. Texts included range from interviews with our artists in Luritja and English, expert voices in the field of textile design, collaborators and our staff who have been on this journey with us.

This book is the result of years of artistic workshops and the recording of stories with the artists. It is self published by Ikuntji Artists through the support of donors. The research is funded by Indigenous Languages and Arts funding.

For thousands of generations Aboriginal people have used art and song as mediums for communicating and illustrating oral history Rock, bark and paper decorated with ochre and charcoal portray the beings and events of Creation as well as educational and contemporary themes. Using traditional tools and techniques, a new generation of artists are interpreting and passing on oral and religious traditions that are thousands of years old. The book presents a collections of paints and didgeridoos that have been carefully selected by Adrian Parker to display the distinct painting style and techniques of contemporary Kunwinjku artists. Bark, paper and didgeridoo preparation, painting and manufacture are fully explained and illustrated.
