Sylvia Nulpinditj | Aboriginal Bush Traders Indigenous Artist Profile

Sylvia Nulpinditj | North East Arnhem Land

Sylvia Nulpinditj is a Yolngu woman from the remote community of Milingimbi in north-east Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. A multi-disciplinary artist, cultural facilitator, and leader in Indigenous media, she is widely recognised for her work across both creative and community spaces.

Her artistic practice spans weaving, carving, and painting, often expressed through hand-woven contemporary pieces, carved and painted artworks, and cultural works that reflect a deep connection to Country. She is also known for facilitating workshops, including contemporary weaving sessions at major events such as NAIDOC Week at Aboriginal Bush Traders.

Beyond her visual arts practice, Sylvia is a Senior Radio Producer for Yolngu Radio and a pioneering broadcaster, becoming the first woman to commentate an AFL match in an Indigenous language. She is also a Cross-Cultural Facilitator and advocate for Indigenous-led business development, bringing a “Yolngu lens” to entrepreneurship and cultural leadership.

Her work across art, media, and community reflects a strong commitment to cultural knowledge, innovation, and storytelling.
