itjili paints the Watiya Tjuta tree. Mitjili's style is unique and recognisable. The Watiya Tjuta in Mitjili’s paintings is her father’s Tjukurrpa (dreaming) in Ilyingaungau country (Gibson Desert). This was passed down to her by her mother, Tjunkayi Napaltjareri when story telling, using the same to draw the story as it is told in the traditional way. She remembers After I got married, my mother taught me my father's Tjukurrpa in the sand, thats what I'm painting on the canvas, a women's interpretation.

During Ceremony on the Tiwi Islands a series of "Yoi", dances are performed, some are totemic (matrilineal) and others act out newly composed songs. Participants are painted with turtiyanginari (natural ochres) transforming the dancers and protecting them against mapurtiti (spirits). These designs are collectively called Jilamara.

Pikilyi is an important natural spring and water-hole at Mt Doreen Station in the Northern Territory. Pikilyi is the home of two rainbow serpents, a married couple. The wife was a Napananka skin group and the husband a Japangardi, a taboo relationship in the Walpri culture. The serpents are the "kirda' traditional owners of that country.

This painting depicts linear pattern 'body paint design'. The Aboriginal women paint their breasts and shoulders for ceremonies, which include song and dance used to tell their ancient stories. The concentric circles symbolise ceremonies or meeting place.
