Mijinalii Candle Studio is a small artisan Candle and Body Products sole trader business of Michele (mitch) Torres – a Djabirr Djabirr, Djugun- Yawuru-Gooniyandi woman of the Kimberley, now based at Dundee Downs in the NT. What started out as a love of candles turned into a hobby business and 5 years later after a lot of research & development, I am ready to launch my range which is my passion. Our website & e-commerce store: www.mijinalii.com.au will be launched in early July 2023 My business is also a sister-sister business which means my sister Ali Torres has a Soap & Body Product business: Mijinalii Soap Studio based in Broome, in which we are two individual business entities that work together, using similar branding that can sit side by side and complement each other’s creations. Mijinalii is a play on our names: mitch & ali. Our funky Mijinalii logo was designed by Aretha ‘Marangah’ Hill my youngest daughter and features the dead leaf of the Gabiny tree and the delicious Gabiny fruit and tops off the final “I” of our name Mijinalii.
My purpose is simple: to create luxury candles, soaps and body products with fragrances inspired by our country, culture, stories, and the 6 seasons of the Kimberley and the Northern Regions. Presented in beautiful minimalist recyclable containers and packaging, my products are crafted from superior ingredients, everything I love about luxury products for home and body, but at accessible prices. Using only 100% soy wax derived from soybeans for an eco-friendly, clean burn and lead-free cotton wicks, my candles, soaps and body products are petroleum-free, cruelty-free, phthalate-free, and 100% vegan using natural oils, fragrances. Each of my creations is hand crafted and poured with great care and labelled out of my home studio in Dundee Downs (NT). The foundational signature fragrance Gabiny (pronounced Gu-binge one of the West Kimberley names) Kakadu Plum is incorporated into all my products, along with 5 distinct native Australian fragrances. I will be adding on newer customised fragrances as I expand as well as adding to the product line.
Gabiny Kakadu Plum (Terminalia ferdinandiana) is a superior antioxidant due to being the world's highest known fruit source of vitamin C. It can improve the skin's visual appearance and reduces the irritation of dry skin. As well it is wholesomely yummy to eat, have on cereals, in salads, add to your drinks and importantly prepare your body for the cold months. Be uplifted by this robust fruity fragrance! Notes of passion fruit guava and melon are highlighted with fresh lime and rest on a base of coconut and tonka bean.
